A team of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" participated in the 10th Competition in solving civil and commercial law case studies, organised by the Centre for Legal Sciences at Burgas Free University. The team of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was well represented by the students of the Faculty of Law: Mila Petrova (4th year, Law) - captain of the team, Slavena Georgieva (4th year, Law), Gergana Atanasova (3rd year, Law) and Zhanina Gicheva (3rd year, Law). The preparation of the students for the competition was led by the judges of Varna District Court, Diana Miteva and Neiko Dimitrov, as well as by Chief Assist. Prof. Maria P. Petrova, lecturer at Varna Free University and lawyer at the Varna Bar Association, member of the competition jury.
The performance of the teams, who presented a mock trial in pairs in the role of the plaintiff and the defendant, according to the drawn lot, was evaluated by a jury of lecturers - legal practitioners from the participating universities. A total of 12 teams participated in the first round - representatives of law faculties from universities all over Bulgaria - Burgas Free University (with three teams), Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", Veliko Tarnovo University "St St Cyril and Methodius", New Bulgarian University, Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarski", Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski" (with three teams), the University of National and World Economy and the Southwest University "Neofit Rilski". Six teams were admitted to the second round, of which two of Sofia University teams took first and second place, and the third place was shared between the Plovdiv team and one of the Burgas Free University teams.
The main initiators of the competition are Prof. Silvi Chernev, PhD and Assoc. Prof. Anna Cholakova, PhD - coaches from BFU, together with Filip Radinov - judge from the District Court - Burgas. With this event, the long-standing tradition of competitions in the field of civil and commercial law, organised and conducted by law faculties in the country, was revived.
