For another year, World Poetry Day was solemnly celebrated by the Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Post-graduate Qualification at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar".
Foreign citizens from the preparatory course for language and specialized training at Varna Free University took part in the celebration.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Marinov emphasized that March 21st has been declared World Poetry Day, and the decision to establish it as a holiday was made in 1999 by UNESCO. And the purpose of the declared day is to recognize the public value of poetic art as a bearer of linguistic beauty, culture, free spirit and creative charge. Lyrical creativity elevates us above the trivial and is always a spiritual sign of a high human ideal. Poetry is the invisible melody, built of words and music, combined in a deep inner song that cannot be explained and analyzed. Poetry gives comfort, hope, gives wings to our dreams and gives expression to love.
Lyrical works by world-famous authors were performed in Bulgarian, Russian, English, Ukrainian and Turkish.
The celebration ended with the words of the contemporary Bulgarian poet Boyko Lambovski: "It is often said that now is not the time for poetry, given that political passions or economic hardships are affecting society. This is not entirely true, because poetry is part of language, and it is what makes us communicate and think. This is our means of expression. In my opinion, there is always time for poetry."
