The Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" will host the traditional 12th International Conference of the Scientific and Technical Union of Construction in Bulgaria entitled Design and Construction of Buildings and Structures. The event will take place from 8 to 10 September on campus. The topics to be considered are in the field of new materials and technologies in construction for a sustainable future, energy efficiency of buildings and structures, achievements in structural design and construction, theoretical and experimental research in the field of structures, seismic mechanics and seismic engineering, design software in construction, etc.
Within the framework of the conference, a roundtable discussion on Archaeological Reserves: Current state and Management Models. The Management of Antiquities - An Unsolved National Problem will be held. Moderator will be Yani Yanev - Vice-President of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and Chairperson of the Varna Necropolis I Non-profit association. The event will be held under the sign of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis and 40 years of the discovery of the Thracian tomb in Sveshtari. Special guests at the event will be Mariela Modeva - Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arch. Petar Petrov, director of the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage, Prof. Diana Gergova - Bulgarian trachologist and specialist in Thracian archaeology, Prof. Yachko Ivanov - director of the Academic Publishing House "Marin Drinov" of the BAS, and Prof. Ivan Kabakov - leading lecturer in policies for culture, cultural heritage and diversity, Assoc. Prof. Eng. Lachezar Hrischev, PhD, Chairperson of the Board of the Scientific and Technical Union for Construction in Bulgaria and Head of the Technology and Mechanization of Construction Department at the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy and Martin Zaimov - National Coordinator of the 100 National Tourist Sites movement ".
Students, doctoral candidates, lecturers and experts from the country will be present. A special invitation has also been sent to the eminent specialist in cultural heritage conservation Prof. Nora Lombardini from POLIMI – Politecnica di Milano.
The Faculty of Architecture of Varna Free University has long-standing traditions and experience in training students in the preservation of cultural heritage. There are over 40 graduates of the master's degree programme in Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The young architects are already successfully working in the field of preserving Bulgarian antiquities.
