VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABER" CELEBRATED THE 146TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF VARNA

27 July 2024

Prof. Dr. Petar Hristov - Rector of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", honored the 146th anniversary of the Liberation of Varna. On behalf of the Student Council, flowers were presented by the secretary responsible for working with the students, Assist. Prof. Beatrice Yordanova.

The day was solemnly celebrated with a military ritual, a requiem prayer for the fallen and a ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers in front of the monument 'Welcoming of the Liberators' in the Spiritual and Educational Center "St. Archangel Michael" in Varna.

On this day in 1878, by virtue of the San Stefano Peace Treaty and the Berlin Treaty, the city was freed from Turkish yoke.

Because of its importance as a major geostrategic, maritime, fortress and commercial center, Varna was the last Bulgarian city to be liberated by virtue of the San Stefano Peace Treaty and the Treaty of Berlin. Its freedom is the result of a long diplomatic war.
