VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABAR" RECEIVED A CONGRATULATORY ADDRESS FROM THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

31 October 2019

On the occasion of 1 November - The Day of the National Enlighteners, Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" received a congratulatory address from Milena Damyanova - chairperson of the Committee on Education and Science at the National Assembly.
It reads:
Dear teachers and lecturers, scientists and creators, museum, community centre and library activists,
Dear friends and associates,

Today is 1 November – The Day of the National Enlighteners! Those who in the dark ages, when our freedom was a lonely longing, scattered the light of enlightenment. Today we all look to the past to pay our respects to St. Ivan Rilski, Paisiy Hilendarski, Grigoriy Tsamblak, Vladislav Gramatik, Neofit Rilski, Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Georgi Rakovski, Stefan Karadzha, Lyuben Karavelov, Petko Slaveykov, Ivan Vazov, Stoyan Mihailovski, Naiden Gerov…
Whatever is written or said about the enlighteners and the trail that each of them left behind in our history and our growth as a nation will not be enough. Each of us carries at least one covenant of Botev, Vazov, Karavelov, Levski. The personal and national appreciation of these glorious heroes has preserved us as a nation that can be proud of its centuries-old history, glorious culture and excellence in science.
Today is the day when we turn to the nowadays enlighteners - those who will awaken in children the curiosity of knowledge and books, the ideals of freedom and justice. Many expect pathetic words, but teachers deserve more and it is not only measured by their pay increases. Today, the teacher is not the first person in the village, they are not the ones to whom everyone kisses a hand, because they teach children reading and writing. Today, the teacher is still wandering between the administrative woes and excessive expectations of the community, seeking freedom. However, today, more than ever, we need teachers with Renaissance inspiration.
Dear teachers,
Today, along with the flowers with which we will adorn the monuments of the national enlighteners, we can promise you that we will not leave a Bulgarian teacher to feel abandoned and together as a society we will strive not to speculate that there is only bureaucracy and tension in education. Along with the financial incentives, we will strive to make every modern-day enlightener feel at ease, secure and satisfied with the success of their mission - the flame of knowledge not to die away in their classroom, in the hearts of their children and not in the heart of a single parent! So that we can continue to exist over the centuries.

We need you!
Happy Day of the National Enlighteners!
Sofia, 1 November 2019!
