The University Publishing House at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", together with the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Sofia Municipality, prepared the translation and publication of a book written by arch. Galina Tachieva - "Sprawl Repair Manual".
The book is only available in electronic form and can be downloaded here ►
The author Galina Tachieva is Bulgarian who lives and works in the United States. She was born in Sofia and graduated from UACEG in 1988. He left for the United States, where she got her master's degree. While studying in Miami, she met Andres Duani and Elizabeth Plater-Zabreck, university professors and founders of DPZ CoDesign. They are one of the founders of the "new urbanism" movement, who want American cities to become more human, greener and with fewer cars.
The translator of the book is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arch. Plamen Petrov - Scientific Secretary of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". He also translated into Bulgarian the "bible in urban studies" by Prof. Jan Gehl and his doctoral student Birgitte Svarre "How to Study Urban Life".
The book of arch. Galina Tachieva "Sprawl Repair Manual" is much more than a handbook or textbook for urban planners, architects and everyone who is concerned about the sustainable development of the urban environment and how to make this environment ecological, human-scale, comfortable, green, healthy and accessible to all social groups and members of society ", wrote in the foreword Prof. Alexander D. Slaev.
It could hardly be otherwise, given the positions and contributions of Galina Tachieva to the modern development of American architecture and urban planning. Today she is a leading partner and director of the urban planning department at one of the most successful design companies, which we associate with the rise and spread of the New Urbanism - DPZ CoDesign (https://www.dpz.com), and a prominent member of the Congress of the New urbanism (CNU), she is a long-time manager of the national "Sprawl Repair Initiative" and successfully combines avant-garde theoretical concepts with her architectural and urban practice. For more than two decades Galina Tachieva has been designing urban structures and buildings in the spirit of this new architectural ideology in different parts of the USA, Latin America, Europe and Russia and in 2010 published the Sprawl Repair Manual - one of the most famous books of the visionaries from DPZ CoDesign. (Excerpt from "A brief overview of the guide" by Prof. D. Sc. Alexander D. Slaev).
