VARNA WILL BECOME THE SCRATCH-CAPITAL ON MAY 29, 2021

The International Scratch Day 2021 will be held in Varna on May 29, at 2 p.m. in the virtual environment. The event is organized annually by the Department of Informatics at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and for the second time is supported by Varna Municipality.
 
More than 200 second to seven-year school students from Varna, teachers in Computer Science, Natural Science, Bulgarian and Foreign languages, as well as parents are expected to take part in the Scratch Day. Students will demonstrate knowledge, skills and competencies in coding, programming and their application in STEM projects. By participating in the challenges - to develop computer animation and computer games, they will further develop their creative thinking, and they may include links to the natural sciences and arts in the codes. The excellent representatives will be awarded prizes.

The teachers, who are the authors of the best developments for training in Computer Modeling, will receive an invitation to join a team to conduct research to understand texts and codes, initiated at the national level by the Department of Informatics at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
 
"In the initiative for the day of Scratch we will create challenges, we will present expertise practices, we will link knowledge from different sciences", commented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Galina Momcheva, Head of the Department at Varna Free University.
 
The initiative to hold Scratch Day was an idea of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and is held every year around the world in May. In Bulgaria it is initiated and implemented by the team of the Department of Informatics. The initiative will be put on the Scratch World Map of Events.
