"Varna - City for People" Student Laboratory and the "Chernorizets Hrabar" Academic Dance Theatre were honoured the prestigious Varna Award

On the eve of 24 May, the scientific team of the "Varna - City for People" Student Laboratory, headed by Corr. Mem. Prof. Arch.  Atanas Kovachev, D.Sc. - Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at VFU"Chernorizets Hrabar"  and the "Chernorizets Hrabar" Academic Dance Theatre with artistic director Prof. Petar Angelov received the highest prize in the city - Varna Award for contributions in the field of technical sciences and in the field of culture.

 

 

The awards were presented at a ceremony on 23 May in the Plenary Hall of the municipality building by the mayor of the city Ivan Portnih and by the president of the local parliament Todor Balabanov.

 

 

Varna Award in the field of science and higher education aims at public recognition of prominent lecturers, scientists and research teams for their high professionalism and proven contribution to the organization and implementation of teaching and research activities. The award stimulates the development and achievements in the field of science and higher education.

 

The Student Laboratory is an initiative of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" in partnership with the Municipality of Varna. The activity is aimed at improving indicators of quality urban environment (infrastructural, visual-aesthetic, communication-accessible, socio-cultural) and creating and adapting public spaces to the needs of people.

 

The creation of modern concepts for better public spaces in the city and the development of real projects upgrade the knowledge and practical skills of the future architects, civil engineers and designers.

 

Varna Award for outstanding achievements in the field of culture is recognition of the citizens of the municipality of the artists of Varna for their creative achievements and their merits in the development of the Bulgarian national culture and elevation of the level of the spiritual life of the city.

 

Established in 1998 as the "Academica" folk ensemble in May 2008, the ensemble grew into the "Chernorizets Hrabar" Academic Dance Theatre. For the 20 years of its existence it has established itself as an integral part of the cultural life of Varna and the country.

 

 

The production of the team of the dance theatre is connected with the implementation of publicly significant performances, among which: "Whirl of Dances", "3 March, 1878 - The Personification of a New Beginning", "Life with the Soul of Dance", " In the Beginning was the Word", "25 years Varna Free University","Bulgaria" and others.

The artists of the Academic Dance Theatre present the beauty, the colour and the deep soul of the Bulgarian dance in many concerts and performances in the country and abroad.

In the field of Humanities with individual Varna Award was honoured Prof. Violeta Tacheva, D.Sc. for scientific and creative achievements, teaching in the field of linguistics and her contribution to the establishment of the city of Varna as an international language centre.

A collective award receives the team of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment "St Marina" - Varna, headed by Dr. Kalin Mihov for contribution in the development and implementation of innovative medical methods and technologies in orthopedics in Varna.

In the field of Natural Sciences, Varna Award was presented to a scientific team headed by Assoc. Prof. Valentina Todorova, PhD for a scientific achievement under the project "Marine Environment Status Surveys and Improvement of the Monitoring Programmes Developed under Frame Marine Strategy Directive (ISMEIMP) ".

In the field of Social Sciences Prof. Rosen Nikolaev, PhD was honoured with Varna Award for his monograph "Optimizing the Planning of Production-Transport Activities of the Enterprise with Relative Criteria".

The collective Varna Award was presented to a scientific team headed by Captain II rank, Prof. Miroslav Tsvetkov, PhD for the scientific project "Information System for Ecological Monitoring of the Maritime Spaces of the Republic of Bulgaria".

In the field of Technical Sciences, the individual Varna Award was presented to Prof. Nikolay Dzhagarov, PhD for scientific and pedagogical achievements in the field of electrical engineering, power engineering and electrical equipment of ships.

The other presented awards were: Varna Highest Award and ten Varna Awards of artists and creative formations and nine Varna Awards in the system of pre-school and school education.
