The 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Academic Dance Theater at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" will be celebrated with a spectacular concert-performance "Traditions in Rhythm and Creativity". The event, organized jointly with the Municipality of Varna, will be held on Europe Day - May 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna. More than 350 performers of different ages will participate in it, united by the love for Bulgarian folklore and Varna Free University.
The concert-performance "Traditions in Rhythm and Creativity" will present captivating performances that bring together the best of the repertoire of the Academic Dance Theater over its quarter-century creative journey. Special guests will be the National Folklore Ensemble "Filip Kutev", the Professional Folklore Ensemble "Strandja", the Voice of Bulgaria Petya Paneva and dance ensembles from all over Bulgaria, whose managers are graduates of "Choreography" major at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" - Children Folklore Dance Ensemble "Kalinka Valcheva" from the city of Tervel, Ensemble "Balkanska Mladost" from Etropole, Ensemble and Folk Dance Club "Bulgarin", Folk Dance Club "Moryatsite", Folk Dance Club "Folklorno veselie". The representative ensemble of the Secondary School for Humanities and Arts "Konstantin Preslavski" in Varna will also take part.
"For us, the concert-performance "Traditions in Rhythm and Creativity" is a celebration, because we have always enjoyed exceptional achievements and beauty that the Academic Dance Theater creates around us. On the other hand, it is a moment of striking a balance, because we are trying to present to the public the artistic and creative achievements of a structure created with a lot of love and developed with a lot of professionalism," said Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
The graduates of the professional field Music and Dance Art are over 400 for the last 25 years. The university maintains boutique majors in the field of arts to not only prepare successful graduates but also to develop personalities. Choreography major is the pearl in the university's crown, according to Prof. Nedyalkova. The University Board of Trustees provides scholarships to the students of the Academic Dance Theater. This year, 24 students from the 1st to the 4th year of full-time studies in the Choreography major are dancing in it, thus there is continuity and the repertoire is inherited.
"The specialty achieves 90% professional realization of the graduates, a large part of the graduates work as managers or choreographers of dance ensembles, folk dance clubs, and others find realization as teachers of Bulgarian dances in secondary education," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Ivanov, Head of "Artistic and Creative Activities" at Varna Free University.
The academic dance theater is the creative laboratory of the students majoring in Choreography, in which they realize their projects. The theater is the holder of prestigious awards in the academic, cultural and educational field. The performances of the young artists create a special mood at every event in the university and the city. The academic dance theater participates in numerous international competitions, where it is awarded diplomas, awards and prizes. The work of the dance theater is the favorite traditional concerts for the Varna audience on March 3, which are carried out with the support of the Municipality of Varna. The Union of Music and Dance Actors in Bulgaria awarded "Crystal Lira" for excellence in the art of dance for the country's first music-dance drama performance "You Lovely, Red Wine", which is choreographed by Prof. Petar Angelov and the music is by the Academician Nikolay Kaufman.
The Academic Dance Theater was established at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" in 2008 on the basis of the existing student folklore ensemble "Akademika". The factors that motivate the management of the university to create boutique majors in the Department of Arts are related to the mission of the university - to preserve and develop the Bulgarian identity and the need to stimulate education in the field of art. The understanding that Varna is a significant international cultural center with a rich history and serious potential for development is also present. From the field of culture at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" come artists who become true spiritual companions and first teachers - significant personalities such as Prof. Petar Angelov, Prof. Milko Kolarov, Prof. Vlado Ivanov, the unforgettable Gena Dimitrova, artists such as Stoimen Stoilov and Milko Bozhkov. Over the years, Georgi Georgiev-Gets, Vasil Mihaylov, Stefan Tsanev, Damian Damyanov, Stefan Danailov, Haygashot Agasyan, Valeri Petrov have visited the university. The teaching staff currently working with the students are among the first graduates who have become associate professors and professors.
VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" is a spiritual center for the preservation of everlasting Bulgarian values. It is one of the few universities in Bulgaria and the only one among private higher education institutions that trains people in the field of music and dance art and actively participates in the cultural life of the country and abroad to popularize Bulgarian art and culture.
