The world – renowned urbanist Prof. Jan Gehl will visit again Varna Free University

Seminar on The Pedestrian Environment in the Central Urban Areas will be held from 26 to 28 February, 2018. Speaker is the world – renowned Danish architect and urban designer - Prof. Arch. Jan Gehl, who has been conferred the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa of Varna Free University.

 

Prof. Gehl is the author of the monographs "Cities for People", "Life between Buildings", "New City Spaces", "Public Spaces - Public Life" and others. He is the author of urban improvement projects in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Rotterdam, London, Amman, Melbourne, Sydney, San Francisco, New York, Moscow and others.

 

Within the framework of the training seminar on The Pedestrian Environment in the Central Urban Areas, a presentation of the Deputy Mayor of Varna Municipality for the forthcoming projects in the city is foreseen. The event includes topics related to urban pedestrian planning, direct observation of the existing situation in the central city area of Varna. Prof. Jan  Gehl will introduce the participants to good practices and research on the potential for improving the pedestrian environment and will present the tools for analysis of the urban spaces. The Forum aims to synthesise specific design solutions for urban aestheticisation by creating public spaces adapted to the needs of people and to discuss possible solutions for optimizing the pedestrian environment in the central area of Varna.

 

On 27 February (Tuesday) at 9:30 am, the STUDENT LABORATORY "VARNA – A CITY FOR PEOPLE" hall will be officially opened under the patronage of Prof. Arch. Jan  Gehl.
