01 June 2021

The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and an honorary citizen of Smolyan - Prof. D.Sc. Anna Nedyalkova donated to the residents of the regional town a stone fountain with a recreation area and a sculpture of a Rhodope woman. The fountain will bring happiness to every resident and guest of the Rhodope town, who visit the stadium and its multifunctional playgrounds.

The event was attended by the Regional Governor of Smolyan Stefan Sabrutev and his predecessor - Nedyalko Slavov, the Mayor of Smolyan Nikolay Melemov, the mayors of Smolyan, Rudozem, Devin, and Zlatograd municipalities, the academic management of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", representatives of local and state institutions, organizations and many citizens.

"Today I have the pleasant obligation to hand over the documents for ownership of the fountain and the documents for donation to the public to the mayor of Smolyan Nikolay Melemov. Water has a memory and with the appearance of the three generations of the family - my son and one of my granddaughters, we bequeath in the memory of this water to have continuity, unity and empathy for the deeds, to have the human right to make mistakes and the even the more sublime human right - to forgive each other. Let us always remember that we did not receive the water and the land for free from our ancestors, but we borrowed them from our children, and we owe them a lot! ”, said Prof. Nedyalkova, wishing to the people of Smolyan that everything goes smooth for them, as if on water”.

"We, the people from the Rhodopes have a tradition that when we want to leave something good for the next generations, we make a fountain. Thanks for the nice spot! I promise we will take care of it and keep it in a good shape. And let it become a symbol of Varna Free University in the town of Smolyan ", said the mayor Melemov.

The President of Varna Free University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krassimir Nedyalkov thanked for the assistance in the implementation of the project to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anelia Parzhanova - Director of the branch of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" in Smolyan and to the Deputy Mayor Mariana Tsekova.

The love of Prof. D. Sc. Anna Nedyalkova for the Rhodopes started a long time ago. With the establishment of the branch of the University in the town of Smolyan, it revives a tradition based on the deep roots and permanence of Rhodope values - it opens horizons and makes hundreds of young people believe in their dreams and urges them to follow the path of success confidently. Along with a bold look into the future, there is invariable respect for the tradition. In the spirit of those ancient, coming from the bosom of the Rhodope Mountains traditions.

The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the mayor of Smolyan - Nikolay Melemov and his deputies, as well as the district administration and all present mayors of municipalities in the region, representatives of local and state institutions. "The Rhodope bagpipe managed to excite me to such an extent that emotions prevail. The optimism and the message are in our love for the Rhodopes. We need to leave our own, albeit modest, mark in them," said Prof. Nedyalkova. She shared her memories of her first steps in the Rhodopes. "After the Ministry of Education and Science agreed to open a branch of VFU" Chernorizets Hrabar" here, we talked for a long time with the mayor of the municipality, who was also a great man and pass his love for the Rhodopes to me, this was Prof. D.Sc. Dimitar Filipov, may his memory live forever. Two hours later we made the decision that there will be a branch in Smolyan. The square was full of people. An elderly woman came to me and kissed my hand. I still feel ashamed of her age and the fact that for two hours she was feeling anxious about what was going to happen to the youth of the Rhodopes. I took this legacy from her: "Love the Rhodopes sincerely". That is why I celebrate today's event with a call of the heart, not with the mind. A bow to you dear people, thank you very much! ", said Prof. Nedyalkova.

The meaning of the construction is to get closer to more people. Prof. Nedyalkova's message is:
Stop and try a sip of majesty from the bowels of the Rhodope Mountains.
Open your soul to their story. Silently and proudly the water brings you the legends of the peaks, the songs of Orpheus, the ringing of the sheep bells, the smell of the Rhodope herbs.
Open your heart to feel the spiritual purity of the Rhodope people and their dignity. Don't pass up! Let's love the Rhodopes together!
