The students from the preparatory course were introduced to the Christmas traditions and customs of the Bulgarian people

18 December 2024

On the eve of the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, a cultural and educational session was held at the Language Center at VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar” with foreign students from the preparatory course for language and specialized training on the topic: 'Christmas Traditions and Customs of the Bulgarian People'. The event was organized by the Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Postgraduate Qualification.

The students were greatly interested in the lecture delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Marinov, who presented the Bulgarian traditional rituals in connection with Christmas. Emphasis was placed on typical Bulgarian customs related to the celebration of the Christian holidays, such as kneading ritual bread, preparing an odd number of Lenten dishes, caroling, etc. The information presenting the symbolic dimensions of the individual ritual actions during the Christmas holidays was especially interesting for the foreign students.

They expressed satisfaction with the cultural and educational session and declared their desire and readiness to actively participate in all subsequent events that are part of the university's cultural calendar.

The training in the preparatory course for language and specialized training for foreign citizens started on November 19, 2024. During this academic year, nearly 40 foreigners from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Bangladesh, Serbia and Nigeria are participating in the course.
