Students and lecturers from Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" participated in the presentation of the book-album 'Varna in the Great War', which was held in the University Library. The event aroused great interest among the students majoring in Law and Protection of National Security. The organization of the event was supported by the University Library and the Student Council at the university.
The authors Simeon Kulish and Trayan Dimitrov presented key moments from the fate of Varna during the First World War - or the Great War, as its contemporaries called it, without suspecting that the world would be faced with another global conflict. They spoke about the challenges facing the mayor of Varna during the war - the lawyer Stancho Savov, what decisions he had to make in the conditions of military operations and how the local government organized the life in the city. Among the main topics of the conversation were the memory of the past and the importance of historical knowledge, the role of volunteerism and donation for society, as well as the sustainability of peace treaties - an issue that the authors posed to the audience.
Simeon Kulish is a history teacher and scientific secretary of the Thracian Scientific Institute, Varna branch. Trayan Dimitrov is the head of the New History Department at the Regional History Museum - Varna and a member of the Thracian Institute.
