On the eve of the Olympic Games in Paris and the Day of the Bulgarian Olympian students and lecturers from Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" participated in the celebration of the International Olympic Day - June 23 at the invitation of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
The students took part in various competitions and sports initiatives in the university's sports hall and park. The university football team also took part in the mini-tournament. Matches in basketball, badminton, boxing, martial arts and relay games were organized. Students majoring in Law, National Security Protection, Construction of Buildings and Facilities, Psychology, International Business and Choreography took part in the event.
Victory Akachi from Nigeria, who is majoring in International Business in English, demonstrated brilliant boxing and football skills and is already part of the university's representative team. The participation of students and lecturers from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" in celebrating the International Olympic Day emphasizes the importance of sports in the university community, promotes physical activity, builds team spirit and unites students. The participants in the event were awarded certificates from the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach and the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Stefka Kostadinova.
Every year on June 23, under the auspices of the IOC, thousands of cities around the world join the traditional initiative to celebrate the International Olympic Day. On this day, 128 years ago, the idea of restoring the ancient Olympiads in their modern version was born and formalized at the Sorbonne University in Paris. The Bulgarian Olympic Committee also celebrates the holiday with a number of activities, together with the Day of the Bulgarian Olympian.
This year, IOC President Thomas Bach's message reads: “Sport always builds bridges and unites people in peace and solidarity. On this Olympic Day, please join us as we call on everyone around the world: Give peace a chance.”
