The font “VFU” made by a student of Varna Free University participates in the exhibition of the International Triennial of Typography

Volodymyr Fedotov, a third-year student majoring in Graphic Design at Varna Free University, is one of the three representatives of Bulgaria selected to participate in the exhibition of the prestigious International Triennial of Typography 'Prof. Józef Mroszczak' in Poland. In the original author's font "VFU" or Visionary Font Ultra, Volodymyr has also woven the international abbreviation of Varna Free University - vfu.bg.The works of the graduate of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" will be exhibited alongside posters by young authors from Poland, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, the USA, Argentina, Japan, and China. The exhibition, which will present the 50 best participants in the competition programme of the International Triennial of Typography, will open on March 21, 2025 at the Museum of Printing in Nowy Targ.
The font “VFU” (Visionary Font Ultra) was developed within the university course in 'Font' taught by the lecturer Ani Dimitrova - one of the key Bulgarian font designers. Volodymyr’s project includes 19 variations, distributed in 9 weights, an italic version and a display version, and is supported for writing in 95 languages, including Cyrillic. “The task in the university classes that inspired me was to create a sans-serif typeface with an accent version,” says Volodymyr. Recently, he has focused on creating fonts accessible to small businesses, artists and designers. “My passion is serif fonts, which I see on book covers, personal elegant logos, invitations, posters,” shares the Ukrainian-born student, who has chosen Varna as his home.
The International Triennial of Typography in Nowy Targ is one of the most prestigious forums for typographic arts, which brings together students, young artists and established graphic designers from all over the world. The Polish School of Poster and Typography is known and recognizable for its traditions and innovations. The works selected for participation in the exhibition were evaluated by a jury of prominent practitioners in the field of typography and graphic design, as well as leading university professors in design, fine arts and communications, which makes the achievement of the student from VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar” particularly significant.
Volodymyr Fedotov’s participation in the International Triennial of Typography is a sign of his talent and strengthens the role of Varna Free University as a center for the formation of academic achievements, spirit and creative community in the field of arts and design.
