The Director of the Smolyan Branch of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anelia Parzhanova, participated in an international meeting organized by the Regional Administration – Smolyan with representatives of the Greek region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The event aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two regions in the fields of education, economy, tourism and culture.
The meeting, hosted by the Regional Governor Zahari Sirakov, was attended by the Governer of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, his deputies, as well as representatives of Bulgarian and Greek institutions. In his speech, Mr. Sirakov focused on the territorial proximity and cultural similarities between the two regions as a basis for sustainable partnership.
The Director of the Smolyan branch at VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anelia Parzhanova, presented the development of higher education in the region. She pointed out that the university is among the recognized foreign higher education institutions in Greece, appearing in the approved lists of DΟΑΤΑΡ. “An important part of the development strategy of the Smolyan branch is to develop and implement new educational models and to offer specialties that meet the requirements of the real economic environment,” said Assoc. Prof. Parzhanova and added that the partnership between academic communities can help create new up-to-date educational products at the global and European level, outlining the shared vision for high-quality, inclusive and value-oriented education.
The meeting also discussed topics related to the protection of natural resources, water management and the implementation of joint European projects. The participants expressed their readiness for joint efforts in the field of tourism, culture and social activities, as well as for the exchange of good practices in academic activities.
