The academic dance theater of the Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" will open the Student of the Year award ceremony of the National Representation of the Student Councils, which will be held on the eve of the National Holiday in Sofia. In front of the best students of Bulgaria, the Academic Dance Theater will present a selection of Shoppian dances, which have been especially prepared for the ceremony.
"The Academic Dance Theater is the creative laboratory of Varna Free University, where the students in Choreography realize their projects. We are proud of the fact that the Academic Dance Theater "Chernorizets Hrabar" was selected to participate in the Student of the Year ceremony. This inspires the students and provokes them in their creative pursuits", commented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Ivanov - Director of artistic and creative activities of the university.
A day later - on March 3, the students from the Academic Dance Theater will present to the Varna audience the concert performance "The Freedom...". According to the tradition, the event is realized with the cooperation of the Varna Municipality and the entry is free. The long-awaited concert, which provokes huge interest from the public will start at 6pm in Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Center in the maritime capital. In the programme, we will see powerful, beautiful, fascinating diploma theses of students in Choreography, dedicated to the topic of freedom and Bulgaria. The show will feature long-standing partners and friends of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" - the representative dance ensembles at the High School for Humanities and Arts "Konstantin Preslavski", the children's folklore ensemble "Bulgarche" at Varna Municipal Children's Complex, ensemble "Bulgarin", the singers Yanitsa Kaneva and Damian Dimov.
This year, the Academic Dance Theater celebrates its 25th anniversary. For a quarter of a century, numerous impressive concerts and performances have been held throughout the country. The theater is the recipient of prestigious prizes and awards in the academic, cultural and educational fields. It categorically complies with the goals set by its creators, Prof. D.Sc. Anna Nedyalkova and Prof. Petar Angelov, to promote the best achievements of our national choreography in the field of Bulgarian stage dances based on folklore, to establish a connection with the educational process and the professional stage practice of the students in Choreography. Under the management of leading teachers and professionals, the creative production of the Academic Dance Theater reflects the contemporary trends in the development of dance art and stimulates student creativity.

The bachelor's degree "Choreography" at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" trains specialists in the field of Bulgarian dance folklore and contemporary dance theater. Successfully graduated students can work as artistic directors of ensembles, choreographers, teachers, etc. The Master's degree programme Performing Arts - Management and Production, upgrades students' knowledge and competences for managing processes in the field of culture.
In connection with its 25th anniversary, the Academic Dance Theater is preparing a spectacular folklore show, which will take place on May 9 in the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna. The National Folklore Ensemble "Filip Kutev", the Professional Folklore Ensemble "Strandja", the voice of Bulgaria Petya Paneva and folklore ensembles from all over Bulgaria, whose managers are graduates from Choreography will take part in it. A month later, the traditional annual concert where course projects - works by students will be presented in Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Center.
