For yet another year, the World Poetry Day was solemnly celebrated in the Department of Foreign Languages and Postgraduate Education at VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar.” International students from the University’s Preparatory Course for Language and Specialized Instruction took part in the festivity dedicated to world poetry.
Prof. Dr. Dimitar Marinov opened the poetic meeting with the words “Poetry is a bunch of words tied with the silken thread of the soul.” and introduced the international students to the history of the holiday and the essence of its celebration. The instructor explained that March 21 was declared World Poetry Day, and the decision to establish it as a holiday was made in 1999 by UNESCO. And the purpose of setting this date is to recognize the public value of poetic art as a bearer of linguistic beauty, culture, free spirit and creative charge. Lyrical creativity elevates us above the trivial and is always a spiritual sign of a lofty humanistic ideal.
Lyrical works by world-famous authors in Bulgarian, Russian, English, German and Kazakh languages were recited.
The celebration was closed with the words of the English poet Percy Shelley: “Poetry is the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds.”
