From March 12th to 15th, 2025, students and lecturers from Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and the South-West University "Neofit Rilski" did a field study in the villages of Gospodinovo, Golitsa and Gyulovtsa. During the expedition, they met with local bearers of traditions, studying authentic dances, music and ritual practices passed down through generations.
The initiative brought together second-year and third-year students majoring in Choreography at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", doctoral students from the South-West University "Neofit Rilski" and lecturers-researchers, including Prof. Dr. Katya Kairyakova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Garov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Ivanov, Senior Asst. Dr. Danail Atanasov and Asst. Dilyan Galev.
The joint expedition provided the students with valuable practical experience in a real environment, introducing them to the cultural characteristics of different regions. In addition to developing their professional skills, the participants made important academic and professional contacts.
The folklore expeditions organized by the university have established themselves as a sustainable model for the study and preservation of intangible cultural heritage. The initiative is to be expanded to include studies in other regions of the country, which will contribute to a deeper understanding and popularization of Bulgarian folklore among the younger generations.
