Second year students majoring in Law at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" visited the Administrative Court - Varna. They were led by the lecturer in administrative law and process and long-time judge from the Supreme Administrative Court, Marina Mihaylova.
The students attended court hearings on cassation cases against decisions of the Regional Court - Varna, related to appeals against criminal rulings of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Varna, the Labor Inspection Department, the Fiscal Control Department - NRA - Varna, the Electricity Distribution "Golden Sands" Ltd, Vehicle Inspection Department and Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Sector Traffic Police.
The chairperson of the three-member cassation panel and chairman of the Administrative Court - Varna - judge Elena Yanakieva explained to the students the procedure for appealing criminal rulings, which is the first and which cassation instance.
Judge Yanakieva introduced the young people to the history of the administrative courts, the types of cases they handle and the job of the judge, emphasizing the independence and secrecy of decision-making in cases.
"As future lawyers, you must learn to form your opinion only when you have thoroughly familiarized yourself with the proven facts, because judges are bound by the evidence and the legal outcome depends on it. The judge is an arbitrator and makes a decision according to the proven facts," summarized judge Elena Yanakieva. The chief justice explained how important is practical training for their future work as magistrates and invited the students to attend court sessions without prior appointment, because they are public and access to them is not restricted. Judge Yanakieva wished the young people success, ambition and inspiration in their studies and future work.
