Special guests of Varna Free University today were students from the Vocational High School of Engineering and Light Industry in the town of Popovo. They visited students majoring in "Fashion Design" and took part in an interactive seminar on zero waste design and a workshop in which they created their own models.
The girls who study in grades 8, 10 and 12 in the specialty "Dress maker" and "Model Maker" have been challenged to design clothes or accessories out of one material in one hour. The aim which was to make a unique product with zero waste was met by all eight teams. They designed skirts, blouses, handbags, and some of the items transformed into a different look. The 12th graders were the fastest. They want to study at Varna Free University and dream of a career in fashion.
The students from Popovo gained new knowledge of the Zero Waste approach, learnt the modern understanding of eco, social and sustainable fashion. They discussed with the university students various approaches to zero waste design and how to design, produce and use nature-frindly and man-friendly clothes. The fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters, and creating zero waste clothes is a challenge for young designers, enabling them to be even more creative.
The team of university professors in the specialty "Fashion Design" - Assoc. Prof. Kapka Manassieva, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Diana Sotirova, PhD and the designer Victor Petkov, introduced the guests to the work of the most successful students of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", who work in the world of fashion. Nikolay Dragoev - educational and marketing expert presented to the students the opportunities to study in different specialties of the university, motivating them for education and career.
