Two projects of the Students' Union of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" have been nominated for "Best Volunteer Initiative" in the competition of the National Alliance for Work with Volunteers and the Tulip Foundation. Today, at the Presidency, the organizers handed over the diploma to the chairperson of the union - Dorothea Nikolaeva and to the fourth-year student Sali Svetoslavov. This happened in the presence of the Head of State Rumen Radev and the Ombudsman of the Republic Diana Kovacheva.
The nominations are for the Free Libraries - Book Houses project of Sally Svetoslavov, a fourth-year student in National Security, supported by the University Students' Union. Within the project, 10 book houses were put in the largest schools in Varna, as well as in the building of the Stoyan Buchvarov Drama Theater. The idea for free libraries is to encourage reading paper books, especially young people, who are increasingly replacing good old books with electronic devices.
A nomination was also given to the Students' Union for the project against telephone con men. In 2019 the Students' Union of Varna Free University organized an information campaign in retirement clubs on the territory of all town councils in Varna Municipality. For their excellent work with the elderly people, the students were honored by the Mayor of Varna Municipality Ivan Portnih and by The Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Varna - Chief Commissioner Daniel Pashov.
The projects of the Students' Union were nominated among 49 volunteer initiatives realized in Bulgaria.
