IT COMPETITION GATHERS SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN VFU "CHERNORIZETZ HRABAR"

For the fourth consecutive year teams, solving complex tasks competed in QUERYADA

Participants in teams from several cities in the country took part in this year's QUERYADA competition. For the fourth consecutive year Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" organized the national competition for school and university students of different ages, majoring in IT.
The competition is organized and carried out to develop staff in the field of data analysis. For the second year students have been trained in the Master's degree programme Data Science and a Master's degree programme in Cybersecurity is being prepared. The Department of Informatics and Economics at Varna Free University prepares courses for students of different ages in Data Science, including primary school students.




"The competition is unique because every year there are dynamic changes to the regulation, taking into account not only the profile of the participants but also the necessities of the business. This time what's new is a task in database security. Standard in recent years is the task of retrieving data from semantic databases, as the tendencies are to have many semantic technologies entering our real life", commented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Galina Momcheva, Head of the Department of Informatics and Economics at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".

Andrey is a VFU student in a mobility programme with a presidential scholarship from Russia. He studies Business Informatics and takes part for the first time in the competition. He said it was difficult but at the same time very interesting for him.
 
“Doctoral students from Lebanon took part in the preparation of two of the tasks and from the next year the competition will become international” said Assoc. Prof. Momcheva.
 
Alexander Georgiev is a student at the Technical University of Varna and has taken part in the competition the most. He thinks the competition is at a very high level and what he likes the most is that each year tasks and formats are different. Alexander already works in a software company and is the president of the IT club of the university where he studies.

 

12 teams from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", the Technical University of Varna, Plovdiv University and Vladimir State University, Russia, and Ivan Bogorov Professional High School of Economics - Varna, Vocational High School - Varna, School of Commerce - Varna, Vocational High School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics "Konstantin Fotinov" Burgas, "Academician Nikola Obreshkov" School in Mathematics and Science, Burgas took part in the 4th edition of QUERYADA 2018.
 The best teams in the competition were the team of the Technical University - Varna and two teams from Varna Free University, and the prizes for the school students were for the teams from the Vocational Technical School - Varna and the School of Commerce - Varna, as well as the Vocational High School of Economics "Dr. Ivan Bogorov" - Varna.




 
The most numerous were the participants from VFU and Vocational High School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics "Konstantin Fotinov", Burgas.
"VFU has established itself as a center of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, and the success of QUERYADA is a proof that we develop the student creative thinking," said Prof. Dr. Teodora Bakardzhieva, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Projects and Technological Development.
