Third-year students majoring in Interior Design at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" took part in a practical field trip in the course in Design for Architectural Environment - Details. As part of their training, they visited the Izvorite park in the Riltsi district of the town of Dobrich - a space with potential that currently needs a complete renovation.
The lesson was taught by Assist. Prof. Eng. Maria Mateeva from the Department of Architecture and Urbanism. The students received a course assignment prepared based on an existing architectural assignment for a conceptual design for the renovation of the park, developed by arch. Nadezhda Pamporova. Each student chose an independent object from the park territory, on which they will work during the semester, applying the principles of detailed design in the context of the architectural environment.
During the visit, the students were accompanied by the team of architects working on the park project. They presented the specifics of the territory - the park has natural water sources, a lake, green areas and alleys, but much of the infrastructure is depreciated or missing. The main goal of the project is to transform the space into an accessible and functional area for recreation and entertainment, combining nature, culture and an active lifestyle.
According to the assignment, a number of improvements are planned - construction of a new alley network, areas for sports, games and picnics, a stage for cultural events, an outdoor café, improvement of the lake and springs, as well as new landscaping. An important emphasis is the creation of conditions for environmental education and accessibility for people with mobility difficulties.
The participation of students in a real project of public importance gives them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical environment and engages them with topics related to sustainable development and care for the urban environment. The initiative is part of the university's strategy to develop professional skills through work on real cases and in partnership with local communities and specialists.
