Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anelia Parzhanova - Director of the Smolyan branch at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was awarded the honorary medal 100 years of Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC).
A national conference on 'Perspectives and Opportunities for the Development of Olympic Education' was opened in the branch. The event was honored by Belcho Goranov - Secretary General of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anelia Parzhanova - Director of the Smolyan branch, Mr. Boran Hadzhiev - Mayor of Chepelare Municipality, Prof. Lozan Mitev, Chairperson of the National Olympic Academy of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Nikola Zapryanov - Head of the Reginal Department of Eduction - Smolyan, sports teachers, students and lecturers from the Smolyan branch - at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
The conference aims at uniting all interested parties around a common concept for the development of the Olympic education. A photo exhibition 'From Paris to Paris' was opened at the university.
Belcho Goranov presented the special greetings from Stefka Kostadinova - the chairperson of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, and gave a public lecture on the topic 'Sports, Education and Upbringing", which aimed to focus students' interest on the power of sports and the pursuit of success.
Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" is among the partner universities of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee. It actively supports initiatives aimed at popularizing Olympic values and strengthening the ties between education and sports.
In the summer, the university hosted training under the 'Sports Coach+' project, organized by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the Bulgarian Red Cross. Coaches from over 10 types of sports from Varna and the region who work with refugees and/or children and youth at risk took part in it, and university students had the opportunity to look at the 'From Paris to Paris' exhibition on the eve of the Olympic Games.
