A team from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" judged a large-scale project of Bulgarian schools in the USA, which united in the desire to preserve Bulgarian traditions. The project "2023 - Together during the Spring Holidays" is under the patronage of the Association of Bulgarian Schools in America.
Committee comprised by Prof. Velislava Nikolaeva, PhD, director of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Postgraduate Qualification, Assoc. Prof. Kapka Manasieva, head of the Department of Arts and Assoc. Prof. Viktor Petkov, PhD, lecturer of visual arts in the Department of Arts awarded the winners of the competition for "Most Beautiful Handmade Card with a Handwritten Greeting for the Holiday". The winners were Maria Maneva - Bulgarian Academy in Richmond/BSS "Kliment Ohridski", Virginia, Sofia Stratiev - Bulgarian School in Seattle, Washington and Tea Kemerov - Bulgarian School in Seattle, Washington.
VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" also judged the competition dedicated to the National holiday, 3 March. It was for a drawing on the theme "Free Bulgaria". 18 paintings from three Bulgarian Sunday schools were evaluated – Bulgarian school "Children like Suns", Connecticut, First Bulgarian School "Elin Pelin", Houston and First Bulgarian School "Elin Pelin", Austin branch.
The goal of the project "Together during the Spring Holidays in 2023" is to preserve Bulgarian traditions in the students of Bulgarian Sunday schools in the USA, by stirring them up to compete to make products related to the most popular Bulgarian spring holidays. The participants in the competition for each of the holidays are divided into three age groups: from 4 to 7 years, from 8 to 11 years and from 12 to 18 years.
The Association of Bulgarian Schools in America is a non-profit organization that works diligently to ensure that students who are proficient in the Bulgarian language can obtain a Global Seal Certificate of Bilingualism (Bulgarian and English) that earns them credits at most universities in USA. In addition, the acquisition of the language certificate for mastering the Bulgarian language increases the opportunities for better realization and advantage when applying for a job for bilingual young people.
