Alexander Aensky, a student of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", saved the Epiphany Cross in Varna this year, reported Radio Varna.
Alexander is 22 years old and is a first-year student majoring in International Economic Relations in a distance learning mode of study. He is an athlete from the Varna Swimming Club and a graduate of the Fifth Language School "Johan Exarch". He has taken part in the traditional ritual for the first time.
Alexander Aensky said that he wants Varna to become the best city to live in, wishing everyone health and enthusiasm.
The solemn events for the Epiphany in Varna began with a festive hierarchal service in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The service was performed by Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliki Preslav. Radio Varna reported that a Great Epiphany water blessing ceremony and a ritual following the traditional Christian feast of rescuing the cross from the waters of the Black Sea were celebrated from the First Jetty.
