VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was a partner of the three-day seminar and workshop on green building, organized by the Union of Architects in Bulgaria (UAB) - Varna, held from October 10 to 12, 2024.
The opening of the seminar took place in the garden in front of the building of the Architect's House on October 10. The first lecturer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arch. Plamen Petrov, a lecturer from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" delivered a lecture to the participants on the topic 'Clay in Construction - Traditions and Innovations'. The next presentations were made by Hristo Totsev on building walls with dry stone masonry and Alexander Borisov with examples from restorations of old houses.
The last two days of the seminar, October 11 and 12, were held on the campus of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The programme included a lecture and a practical part. The lecturer Eng. Dobromir Mashev from the Green Building Institute, which was also a partner of the UAB - Varna, presented the following lectures: 'Introduction to Norms and Practices in Green Building', 'Home Microclimate - Basic Concepts and Parameters' and 'General Presentation of Green Building Materials'.
On both days, after completing the lecture part, the participants had the opportunity to work with green materials provided by the company Sevarex. Engineer Mashev conducted the practical part. The task was to install different types of panels made of green materials on pre-prepared wooden supporting structures - panels made of wood particles, hemp and straw as well as reed mats and to test different techniques of applying clay and lime plasters on them. Engineer Mashev demonstrated the different types of clay plasters according to their purpose and gave instructions on how to work with them. There was a large number of architecture and interior design students among the participants who actively took part in the practical exercises. All of them expressed their satisfaction with getting to know green materials not only at a theoretical level, but also to be given the opportunity to work with them.
