A tower with a height of 282 centimeters, which successfully passed the most serious seismic testing for earthquake, and also for shapeliness and creativity, won the first place in the eighth edition of the National Competition for Creative Skills Varna Spaghetti Engineering, which was held today at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The organizer and host of the event is the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department, and the team is the winner of the 2019 Varna Award.
The winning tower was designed and built by the "Apocalypse" team made up of graduates from the Vocational High School in Architecture, Construction and Geodesy in Shumen. The second place was for "The Invincibles" from the Vocational High School "Lubor Bayer" in Stara Zagora, and "Spaghetti Art 2" from the Vocational High School "Vasil Levski" in Varna came in third. The award of the Student Council at Varna Free University for the most united team went to the students from the "Thought Circle" from the Vocational High School "Angel Popov" in Veliko Tarnovo.
13 student teams from the leading vocational high schools in architecture, construction and geodesy in Varna, Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Shumen and Burgas participated in the competition. The winners were nominated by a professional jury that evaluated height, shapeliness, economy and creativity. 12 of the 13 towers passed the seismic testing and remained intact.
The special award of the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design - Varna Regional Branch was presented by Eng. Snezhana Mileva to team "Lipstick" from the Vocational High School "Hristo Botev" - Sofia. "Continue to develop your creativity at school, upgrade your education here - at Varna Free University, where good, capable and knowledgeable specialists await you, and then we will welcome you between us," said Eng. Mileva. Eng. Stamat Stamatov from the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria - Varna Regional Branch, added that future engineers will also find many true friends at the university. He presented the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria special award to the "Porte" team from the Vocational High School "Arch. Kamen Petkov" in Plovdiv.
Arch. Georgi Naydenov from the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria awarded "Eleven Bi" from the Vocational High School "Nikola Fichev" in Pleven and recalled his student years while majoring in Architecture at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The award of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria was presented by the chairperson of the regional branch in Varna - arch. Nikolay Rachinski to the "New Hopes" team from Stara Zagora, who impressed the jury and the audience with their orthogonal foundation. "All the teams created excellent structures and wonderful volumes in which I saw the future modern skyscrapers," commented arch. Rachinsky. The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Rositsa Petkova - Slipets awarded team "Bricks" from the Vocational High School in Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Kolio Ficheto" in Burgas for their excellent media presentation.
Varna Free University students majoring in Construction of Buildings and Facilities and Architecture, who took on the role of mentors for the student teams, set a true example of a united team. It is not by chance that they were defined as the "golden class" of the competition. The future architects and engineers not only helped, but also gave advice to the students on various professional tricks for creating beautiful and sustainable towers. The majority of the mentors from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" had taken part in the prestigious competition, which had an impact on their choice of university. "Competition creates lifelong friendships," said they.
The national competition Varna Spaghetti Engineering is one of the most successful formats for provoking the unconventional thinking and imagination of young people. As the organizer and host, the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at Varna Free University wishes to gather in one place students from vocational high schools, students from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and professionals from the construction industry for the creation of unique building constructions made from spaghetti, which provokes creativity, ingenuity, team spirit and at the same time develops their interest in the construction profession.
The IX edition of the creative skills competition Varna Spaghetti Engineering will be held on November 17 and 18, 2023, under the theme Lifting Bridges.
