12 STUDENT TEAMS WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE NATIONAL CREATIVE SKILLS COMPETITION "VARNA SPAGHETTI ENGINEERING"

The eighth edition of the National Creative Skills Competition "Varna Spaghetti Engineering" will be held on March 31 and April 1, 2023. The organizer and host of the event is the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The competition team is the winner of the prestigious "Varna" award for 2019.
This year, 12 student teams from all over the country will take part in the competition. They will show their knowledge and strength in creating towers of spaghetti. The competition will include teams from the leading Vocational High Schools in Architecture, Construction and Geodesy. The one from Varna will be represented by three teams, and the ones from Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Veliko Tarnovo with two each, Shumen and Burgas - with one each. Each of the teams will have a mentor - a student from Varna Free University. The 12 graduates of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" are second-year-students majoring in Construction of Buildings and Facilities and third-year-students majoring in Architecture.
Competing groups will have a base for the structures, two packages of spaghetti, 10 sticks of silicone and guns for it, a protractor, a ruler, a modeling knife and two hours to create their model. Towers will be judged on:
► height,
► value - the ratio of the height of the tower to the circumference of the widest and part,
► economy,
► sustainability and
► creativity.
The Varna Spaghetti Engineering National Competition is one of the most successful formats for provoking the unconventional thinking and imagination of young people. As the organizer and host, the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at Varna Free University wishes to gather in one place students from vocational high schools, students of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and professionals from the construction industry for the creation of unique building constructions from spaghetti, provoking creativity, ingenuity, team spirit and at the same time develops their interest in the construction profession.
Traditionally, the partners supporting the project are the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria and the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design. This year the event is also supported by: Planex LtD, "Savimex - Zlaten Klas and Hidrostroy AD.
