Specific admission requirements:
Diploma of Secondary Education or Diploma of Higher Education, successfully passed entrance examination. State matriculation examinations and international certificate examinations in language and computer skills are recognized as entrance examinations.
Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:
The ECTS coordinator, Assist. Prof. Gergana Zhelyazkova, (e-mail: gergana.zhelyazkova@vfu.bg, ggzhelyazkova@gmail.com), of the Department of Administration, Management and Political Science provides initial information and guidelines for the existing possibilities for recognition and awarding of credits from prior learning.
The recognition of credits is possible on the basis of submitted documents (an academic transcript of records or a diploma from a previous study; international diplomas and certificates, etc.).
Certification of knowledge and skills is carried out by taking examinations at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” in the following areas:
The Department awards ECTS credits in compliance with the major’s curriculum, on the basis of achieved certification results.
Qualification requirements and regulations:
In order to be awarded this qualification, students need to obtain 240 credits, 182 credits are awarded for doing compulsory courses, 30 credits are awarded for doing elective courses, 15 credits are awarded for doing optional courses, 3 credits are awarded for training work placement and pre-graduation internship and 10 credits are awarded for State Examination (Thesis Defence).
Programme profile:
The process of study in "Business Administration and Management – Tourism Management is based on the following fundamental areas: Economics, Sociology, Management, Information Technology. It aims at training highly qualified specialists and experts in the field of tourism management who can work competently and loyally, occupying responsible positions at different types of tourism organizations.
The process of study in "Business Administration and Management – Tourism Management focuses mainly on the problematic and creative presentation of lectures and on the application of active methods - case studies, role plays, individual or team development of presentations and project assignments, doing tests and other forms of training and continuous assessment. Students are encouraged to write essays and develop research papers, participate in contests and student competitions and conferences held at the university, in Bulgaria and abroad.
The curriculum provides students with the opportunity to conduct work placements and pre-graduation internship in tourism organizations at students’ own choice.
The process of training is organized in a way which provides the opportunity for horizontal mobility within the major and offers courses that can be selected by students in other majors at the university. Students are encouraged to participate in academic mobility under the “Erasmus” program.
Programme learning outcomes:
Students acquire specific knowledge and skills such as: develop specific competences enabling them to research and evaluate real facts and phenomena of business practices in tourism; form capabilities for expert analysis and evaluation of management problems and develop options for management decisions in tourism enterprises; adoption of policies to capture target markets; capacity building for implementation of functional strategies of tourism enterprises, development of communication skills by active participation in business games, case studies and the experience gained during the work placement.
