Admission requirements:
Secondary education diploma;
Graduates who come from professional schools and Choreography classes apply without sitting an entrance exam since their grades in Choreography are recognized. All the other applicants sit a practical examination in Bulgarian folk dances.
Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:
First option:
Recognition of credits based on the documents presented:
- A transcript of records or diploma from previous education;
- International diplomas and certificates in a foreign language (Cambridge FCE, TOEFEL for English; Zertifikat Deutsch, Sprahdiplom, Zweite Stufe for German; ТРКИ for Russian; DELF for French; DELE for Spanish);
- International diplomas and certificates in computer skills corresponding to ECDL (The European Computer Driving Licence).
Second option:
Certification of knowledge and skills based on successfully passing:
- A foreign language exam at the Department of Foreign Languages;
- A computer skills exam at the Department of Informatics;
- An exam covering specific knowledge and skills in the professional field of Music and Dance Art.
If graduates come from classes or schools of art and have a diploma in Bulgarian Dances or Choreography, two of the grades from their secondary education diploma will be recognized: Ethnography and Bulgarian Dances, Bulgarian Folklore Dance Exercise, Fundamentals of Classic Dance (Exercise).
• Recognition of credits:
The Department of Art awards credits, according to the curriculum of the major, based on the certificates.
Requirements and rules for qualification:
In order to be awarded the qualification Bachelor with the professional qualification Choreographer and Pedagogue 240 credits are necessary, 182 credits come from compulsory courses, 36 credits from elective, 12 credits from optional courses and 10 from pre-graduation pedagogical practice and diploma work.
Profile of the programme:
The qualification course features a broad range of theoretical, pedagogical, creative and practical disciplines, systematized as compulsory, elective and optional courses.
Compulsory courses develop knowledge and skills in the field of choreographic composition and direction of variety show dances, Bulgarian folk dance and music, ethnography, classic dance, pedagogical and theoretical music courses. Elective modules and optional courses provide specialized further training depending on students’ interests: Modern and Jazz Dance, Dancesport, History of Fine Arts, Classic Dance, Dance Techniques, Linguistic Competence, etc. Training includes lectures, independent work, and individual work with a lecturer, project assignments, diploma work, internships, staging work as a part of an academic team (student ensemble), professional or amateur groups, as well as participation in expeditions and field work.
Key learning outcomes:
Students master knowledge and skills in:
- composing and directing with regard to producing dance and stage shows;
- directing shows and mass events;
- doing pedagogical and creative work with different age groups;
- doing research and scientific work;
- traditional costumes;
- traditional folk music;
- working with people (communicative skills).

Mode of training: full-time/ part-time
Examination regulations, assessment and grading:
The curriculum features written and practical exams. Creative courses end with project assignments. Assessment and grading follows the ESCT system.
Students complete their training with defense of diploma work: Composition and staging of a dance in one of the three forms - dance story, thematic dance and thematic dance story. The dance show is performed live or recorded and played as a video at the State Examination Committee.

Professional profile of the graduates:
The programme trains highly qualified specialists in the following areas:
Artistic directors of professional and amateur ensembles, choreographers in professional institutes and ballet masters in ballet theatres and troupes.
- Teachers in secondary art schools with specialized classes in choreography in children's and youth schools, community centers, centers working with children, etc.
- Training staff to work in the entertainment sector of tourism, electronic media, etc.
Access to further studies:
Graduates can enter the Master’s degree programmes Choreographic Direction, Stage Arts, Management and Creative Producing or in other Master’s degree programmes.
