Varna Free University gets third consecutive European Commission award

The university is the only Bulgarian higher education institution to have been awarded the official European logos for educational quality and transfer of credits, as well as the EC’s Human Resources Logo

The European Commission has awarded its HR Excellence in Research Logo to Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna in certification of the university’s significant achievements in the field of scientific research, the HR Logo being the third consecutive European award received by VFU in the last few years. In 2010, it was awarded the EC’s ECTS Label for its successful implementation of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System at both the bachelor’s and master’s level, whereas in 2009 it received the European Diploma Supplement Label, certifying the quality of education provided by it.

The third consecutive award to Varna Free University, the European Commission’s Human Resources Logo is awarded to universities and research and funding organizations applying the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, as a guarantee for research freedom, professional liability upon selection of employees and international qualification recognition, as well as for their social commitment and contribution to making business and research topics and projects adequate to the interests of local communities.

In addition, Varna Free University is the only Bulgarian university entitled with the right to apply the HR Excellence in Research Logo on its website, corporate publications and other documents. It is a proof that the University is making special efforts to provide its research staff with a pleasant working environment and apply transparent recruitment procedures.

In order to be awarded the Logo, applicant institutions must work out a Human Resource Strategy in Research, based on the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Both documents are key elements in the EU’s policy on generation and transfer of knowledge, career advancement, as well as free mobility of researchers and recognition of their international contribution and cooperation in the field of science and research.

The Human Resource Strategy of Varna Free University includes an action plan until 2014, according to which the University is about to start a brand new national and international research network, as well as a special fund supporting research workers with regard to their application for different projects. Apart from that, a set of documents officially approved and adopted by EC’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation shows that a new strategy for research career development is about to be developed by the University with regard to the research fields of paramount importance maintained by it.
