Forensic science and report room opens at Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna

A modernly-equipped forensic science and report room opened 24 January 2012 at Varna Free University.

The room was officially opened by the Rector, Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, Sc.D. The opening was attended by the Vice-Rector Prof. Pavel Pavlov, the Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Petar Hristov, the Head of the Department of Legal Sciences at VFU, Prof. Boyan Stankov, Sc.D., Prof. Kostadin Bobev, Sc.D., the former long-serving Head of the Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology, Mr. Milen Slavov, Deputy Director of the Civil Department of Varna’s District Court, Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Velinov, Head of the Specialised Expert Clinic for Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology at Sofia’s St. Naum Psychiatric Hospital, and forensic report experts, as well as students from VFU’s Forensic Report MA programme.

During the opening, Prof. Yonko Kunchev, Sc.D., Head of the Forensic Report MA programme and Aleksandra Angelova, an assistant lecturer in forensic science and reporting, made several demonstrations using electronic microscopes, fingerprints and photo portrait forensic reporting (image building using photofit technology). Also, Prof. Kunchev and Assistant Lecturer Angelova are the persons who created the design for the forensic room.

The room will be used for instruction of students from the only Bulgarian forensic report MA programme, as well as from VFU’s newly-established MA specialities of Private Detective Investigation and Insurance and Tax Investigation.

The equipment of the room features electronic microscopes, magnifiers, multimedia, information and educational boards, real-case samples, such as bullets, cartridges, finger prints, plaster prints, etc. Besides, the room will be used for the provision of forensic reports during civil cases.
