Varna Free University hosts again the most popular forum for young specialists in Russian studies in Europe



The 9th International Qualification School "Modern Pedagogical Technologies in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language" will be held from 21 to 25 August 2017 at the Russian Center of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". It is organized by Varna Free University with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

 

The official opening of the 9th International Qualification School is scheduled for 21 August (Monday) at 11:15 in the Conference Hall of the Russian Center of Varna Free University.

 

The school has been identified as one of the most successful projects of Varna Free University and the Russkiy Mir Foundation. The project started in 2009 - the year of the opening of the Russian Center at the University.

 

The school has already had 9 editions and is one of Europe's most popular methodological schools for young teachers. A testimony of its prestige is the support of the International AssociationofTeachersofRussian Language and Literature, the Municipality of Varna, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Varna, the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia, the non-profit association the Bulgarian National Network of Teachers of Russian Language and Culture and the National Publishing House for Education and Science at the Ministry of Education and Science "AzBuki"- media partner of the event.

 

More than 430 specialists in Russian studies have perfected their methodological training within the school. The participants are students and lecturers from leading European universities. Varna Free University has received participants from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Greece, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

 

This year's forum will include representatives of 11 universities from 8 countries. For the first time students from the University of Milan, Italy and the Samtskhe Javakheti State Universityin Georgia will take part in the school.

 

 

Traditional feature of the school is the unique combination of theory and practice: lectures by leading scientists in the field of Russian language learning combined with workshops and master classes.

The scientific program includes topics that fall outside the traditional university courses on methods of teaching Russian. It is oriented to explore innovative pedagogical technologies and their application in the training process.

The use of innovations in Russian language teaching can be identified as a key topic of the school. The circle of lectures, master classes and round table discussions is quite broad. Besides the impressive participation of students and lecturers of Russian, traditionally top lecturers from Russia and Bulgaria participate in the school.

 

Among the highlights in the program of the school is the master class of Prof. Leonid Moskovkin, D.Sc. - "The Polycode Text in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language". This is an innovative form of training for the future teachers of Russian where the professor from the department of Russian Language and methodology of its teaching at St. Petersburg State University will share his experience in working with texts in which there are encoded heterogeneous semiotic verbal and nonverbal components. Prof. Moskovkin is one of the leading scientists in the field of teaching Russian as a foreign language. He has written more than 200 scientific publications on the subject.  

In addition to the master class, two of his lectures on "Productive Innovative Technologies in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language" and "Basic Directions of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology" are scheduled in the forum program.

 

 

One of the favorite lecturers of the young specialists in Russian studies - Prof. Valeriy Efremov, D.Sc. this year again has a strong presence in the program of the International Qualification School. Prof. Efremov's master class "Game Forms for Promoting the Russian Language" will present the specifics of the concept of "edutainment" - education through entertainment, as well as a variety of game methods used in the Russian language teaching.

Apart from his impressive scientific and methodological activities, Efremov is also a presenter in the St. Petersburg’s Radio Russia, where he has been the author of " What’s This in Russian?" since 2005.

In his lecture, "The 21st Century Popular Science Text", Efremov will focus on the linguistic peculiarities of Russian popular science texts.

The program of the school includes the seminar-practice of Prof. Efremov "The Russian Language on the Internet: Memes and Emoticons". The Participants will learn about online communication problems related to the specific language used on the Internet. The lecturer will pay special attention to the problems in using and understanding emoticons and other graphic symbols.

 

Assoc. Prof. Nadia Cherneva, PhD is known to the specialists in Russian studies in Bulgaria as a lecturer in the Department of Russian Philology and Deputy Dean of the Philological Faculty of Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarski". Her scientific interests are in the field of comparative linguistics, philosophy of language, intercultural communication, theory and practice of foreign language teaching.  

In the program of the school Assoc. Prof. Tcherneva will take part with a lecture on "The Dance and Linguodidactics" and a master class on "The Russian Language with Songs and Dances", where the main emphasis will be on combining the traditional knowledge in the field of music-dance folklore and the acquisition of practical skills in the different stages of mastering the foreign language.

 

Denis Bukin, senior lecturer of the department of philology of St. Petersburg State University will participate in the international qualification school  this year with the lecture "Culinary Linguistic Culture" and the master classes on "Network Instruments for the Lecturers of Russian as a Foreign Language" and "From Song to Song".

The lecture by Denis Bukin will introduce students to the main approaches in the study of cultural and linguocultural studies. The lecturer will present curious information about the origins of various culinary specialties, some of which are typical of the Russian cuisine and others mistakenly attributed to it.

 

 

 

The International Qualification School will meet the participants with the famous specialist in the field of foreign language teaching, Prof. Galina Shamonina, PhD, Director of the Foreign Language Teaching Department and the Russian Center of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". Prof. Shamonina is a lecturer in the two round table discussions: "The Young specialists in Russian studies - an Important Part of the Russian World," and "Methodological Idea or How to Work with Phraseology in a National Audience." 

The participants in the round table "Methodological Idea" will work on a theme related to the use of phrases. They will choose idioms from Russian and their native language, semantically related to the concepts of "feast", "joy", "dance". Each of the teams will present their concept and methodologically grounded ideas for explaining the meaning, origin, use in speech, and their use in the process of teaching.
