About VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar"

Varna Free University opened Relocated Center for Career Counseling and Admissions in Dimitrovgrad

At a joint press conference today, the Mayor of Dimitrovgrad, Ivo Dimov and the Rector of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", Prof. Galya Gercheva, D.Sc. announced the opening of a reception office for candidate students of the university in Dimitrovgrad. The reception office is located in the building of Hebros Tourist Company at 8 Kansinzbartsika Street in the town.



The initiative is a result of a signed memorandum of partnership between the municipality and VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".




The mayor said that this was the first step towards a closer bilateral partnership and a prospect of opening a branch of the higher education institution. "The procedure is quite cumbersome and often takes too long, including the approval of the relevant committees at the National Assembly. But to implement the idea in full, it is necessary to have the necessary prerequisites and interest on the part of the prospective students," the mayor said.


During the press conference, the rector of Varna Free University, Prof. Galya Gercheva, D.Sc. presented the training opportunities that the higher education institution offers for successful realization of the young people from the region. She outlined the competitive advantages of the university established over the last 25 years - authoritative national and European accreditations, ISO certification, training oriented towards students and the needs of the business. Over 1000 are the graduates of Varna Free University from the region, Prof. Gercheva pointed out.



The Dean of the Faculty of International Economics and Administration, Assoc. Prof. Eleonora Tankova presented the variety of flexible forms and specialties. She commented on the trends in the development of the economy and the introduction of new technologies in all spheres. That is why in the portfolio of the university there are specialties such as the bachelor's degree program in Digital Economy and a master’s degree program in Digital Marketing and Web Design.



The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD commented on the leading role of the university in the training in the field of national security, countering crime and psychology. The activity of the Center for Vocational Training at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was presented by the Vice-Rector of the Educational Affairs, Prof. Valeri Stoyanov, PhD. The Center offers training in 40 specialties of 26 professions as well as opportunities to validate knowledge and skills acquired in an informal way.





At 5:30 p.m. in the Groseto Hall in the municipality building, a meeting with graduates of Varna Free University from the region was held. During the meeting in the presence of the Rector of the University Prof. Galya Gercheva, D.Sc., the Vice-Rector Prof. Valeri Stoyanov, PhD and the Deans of the Faculty of Law - Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD and the Faculty of International Economics and Administration - Assoc. Prof. Eleonora Tankova, PhD an Alumni Committee was founded.



The role of the Alumni Committee is to maintain a permanent living connection between the university and its former students. "The alumni system enables exchange of information between the university and its graduates in business, professional and purely human terms. Similar communities have already been founded in Silistra, Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Vratsa, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Burgas and others. This committee will be at the heart of the joint project that we start with Dimitrovgrad Municipality and the opening of a reception office of Varna Free University here, "said Prof. Hristov. The Alumni Committee is also a place to exchange ideas and conduct joint initiatives and celebrations. The community helps to obtain up-to-date information about the training and programs that VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" offers for the improvement and upgrade of knowledge and competencies.


The meeting was attended by lawyers, economists, psychologists, and graduates of other specialties at the university. Among the graduates of VFU were the Deputy Mayor of Dimitrovgrad, Svetoslav Stoykov, the Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council, Yulian Semerdzhiev, the Chief of the District Police Directorate in Haskovo, Angel Tsankov, representatives of business, social workers and others.

A second meeting will be held in September or October, at which the leadership of the Alumni Committee in Dimitrovgrad will be elected. A meeting with business representatives from the region is also planned to identify the needs for specialized training.
