About VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar"

The joint edition of Smolyan Branch at Chernorizets Hrabar VFU and the Regional Administration - "Rodopi" Journal, celebrated its fifteenth anniversary

A roundtable dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Rodopi journal was held at the Smolyan Branch of Varna Free University on 7 May 2017. The discussion was opened by the Director of the branch - Dr. Anelia Parzhanova and the editor-in-chief of the journal - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Ginevski. It was attended by the Vice President of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" - Mr. Yani Yanev, the Regional Governor of Smolyan District and member of the editorial team of the journal - Eng. Momchil Karaivanov, Deputy Mayor of Smolyan Municipality - Mr. Marin Zahariev, the Director of the Regional Office of Smolyan - Mr. Ivan Moutsevski, representatives of the academic community, members of the Association of Honorary Citizens of Smolyan, friends and journalist, guests and representatives of the media.\



 Issues related to the importance of periodicals, such as the Rhodope journal, which maintain the spirituality in the region, were discussed at the round table. Ideas to encourage the participation of more young people in the publications in order to engage them in research and development were shared.

 According to Eng. Momchil Karaivanov, the journal has the potential to expand, opening new perspectives for the region. He said that the upcoming Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU in 2018 could be the topic of a special edition of the Rodope journal. Eng. Karaivanov shared his expectations for fruitful cooperation with the Bulgarian Academy of Science and other scientific institutions which will continue in the future.

 The Deputy Mayor of Smolyan Municipality Marin Zahariev congratulated the academic management of VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar” and Prof. Ginevski with the fifteenth anniversary of the journal on behalf of the Mayor of Smolyan Municipality Mr. Nikolay Melemov and on his behalf.

The Vice President of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" - Mr. Yani Yanev said that he is proud to be part of the process of setting up the branch of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" in Smolyan. He mentioned that the topics discussed at the round table and the congratulations received for the past 15 years have been an incentive for the university management to continue publishing the Rodopi journal.



“We are very aware that it is a very important, very colorful element in the academic glory of Varna Free University, and the jornal has successfully joined the mission that we think is very important for the universities - not only to train, but also to educate, "said Mr. Yanev.


The Rodopi Journal celebrates its fifteenth anniversary with its 80th jubilee issue. In 2002, with a decision of the academic management of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", the branch in Smolyan restored the periodical with the permission of his long-time editor - the great Bulgarian writer, researcher, publicist and public figure Nikolay Haytov.


The first issue of the journal was published on 1 January 1966 as a monthly public-political, scientific-popular and literary magazine, a publication of the National Council of the Fatherland Front.



The Rodopi journal deals with economic, political and cultural issues and the interest to it in the region is increasing, as well as throughout the country. It is a joint edition of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and the Regional Administration Smolyan.



Its Editor-in-chief is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Ginevski and members of the Editorial Board are Eng. Momchil Karaivanov, Dr. Todor Zgurov, Prof. Venelin Kafedzhiev, Mrs. Tanya Mareva, Mrs. Zoya Nacheva, Mr. Alexander Marinov and Assoc. Prof. Mladen Tonev.



Being an important contributor to the establishment and development of the Rodopi Jornal, Dr. Hristo Ginevski, a prominent Bulgarian journalist and publicist, was awarded an honorary diploma.
