Code of Taxes - unconventionally for tax standards

"The citizen has to pay their taxes with the same feeling with which the lover bestows on their beloved gifts." "Taxes are the price we pay for the opportunity to live in a civilized society" - with these words of the German writer-romanticist Novalis and the American doctor, poet and writer Oliver Holmes, the master class in Code of Taxes was launched. It was held at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" on 11 and 12 February.




The unconventionalstart provoked discussions and a lot of new and useful information was provided. The participants agreed on the idea that although nobody likes to pay taxes, they are an integral part of life and it is reasonable to know more about them.




The event presented a wide range of topics related to the tax system and taxation in the Republic of Bulgaria. Lecturers were Milena Koleva - Director of the Territorial Directorate of the National Revenue Agency, Varna, Encho Yordanov - Manager  in Taxback.com, Galina Petrova - state customs inspector in the Department of Excise Duties of Customs - Varna and a lecturer at the Balchik training centre at the Customs Agency.




The master class was attended by students of the Master's degree programmes of Finance and Accounting, Financial Audit and Tax and Customs Control, Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree students majoring  in the professional areas of Law and Architecture, Construction and Geodesy at Varna Free University, students from Veliko Turnovo University "St Cyril and St Methodius ", University of Economics - Varna, lawyers and business representatives from the town and the region. Students from the Smolyan branch of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" participated in the forum via online video link.

The participants in the master class were introduced to the history of taxes in this country and around the world and learned many interesting facts related to them. Part of the programme of the event was the introduction to the Customer Charter of the National Revenue Agency, the administration of taxes, the Tax Procedure Code and the rules for conducting inspections and audits, as well as their appeal.

The second day of the master class was dedicated to direct and indirect taxes and taxation and the control of excisable goods. The attendees got acquainted with the American tax system.




The seminar part was accompanied by interesting discussions in which participants and lecturers shared their knowledge and experience. At the end of the master class, the participants received prizes and certificates.

The high evaluation by the participants provoked the organizers of the Faculty of International Economics and Administration at Varna Free University to announce the next master class dedicated to taxes - VAT for Lawyers.
