Festival of foreign languages at VFU entitled "World without Borders"

    The festival of foreign languages at VFU entitled "World without Borders" started on Monday. It is organized by the Foreign Language Teaching Department and is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Varna Free University. Every day from 18 to 22 April is full of events.

 

 

    The question on Monday: "Do you speak English?"     Students, majoring in different specialties participated in the various events on the Day of the English Language. First among them was the screening of a British film in English, watched by students majoring in International Business Management, 2nd year and foreign students.     Then, representatives of Pearson publishing house presented their textbooks, materials and books. The Foreign Language Teaching Department received an expensive gift - the most comprehensive English grammar issued so far "Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English" authored by Douglas Biber, Stig Johansson, Geoffrey Leech, Susan Conrad, Edward Finegan. 

    Most expected were the language competitions. Four teams - "Eagles", "The Team", "Tangra" and "Brothers' Support" constituted by students majoring in different specialties, competed in an interesting quiz dedicated to the culture, history and socio-political life in the major English-speaking countries in the world: UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The students showed that they know not only interesting facts about places and people, but can tell in the English language about the symbols and myths of the cultures of the countries, of the founders of the nations, of polity, democratic practices and human rights

 

 

    Impartial jury determined the winners - Team "Eagles" with participants Simona Vidolova, Evelin Rusev, Meral Ahmed majoring in International Relations and Law, 3rd year. Apart from the winners, awards and certificates of achievement for excellence in the study of English at the university received the students majoring in International Relations and Law, 3rd year: Simona Angelova, Remzie Ibraimova, Denitsa Sarbova.

    The Day of the English Language continued with celebration of 400 years since the death of the "national poet" of England, William Shakespeare - the great writer and playwright of all time. Students majoring in Psychology, 1st year, dressed in theatrical costumes and 'armed' with original replicas of the works played characters of the tragedies "Romeo and Juliet" and "Othello." The students Silvia Marinova, Anthony Petrov, Iliyan Marinov, Asen Yankulski - performers of the main roles made the audience experience the incredible magic of Shakespeare's works. To feel the ambience of the age of Shakespeare contributed the performance of a man in the role of Juliet as it was the theatrical tradition at that time.

    Awards and certificates of achievement for excellence in the study of English at the university and also for artistic achievements during the festival received Silvia Marinova, Anthony Petrov, Iliyan Marinov, Asen Yankulski majoring in Psychology, 1st year, Pavlina Demireva, majoring in Crime Counteraction and Protection of Public Order, 2nd year.

    The poetic part allowed the attendees to test their poetic and literary skills. The task was to complete rhymes in poems with popular theme, the so called Rose verses: Roses are red, violets are blue. The students answered questions about the widely used even nowadays   symbolism in the legend of the English King Arthur.       All participants in the Day of the English Language received a certificate for participation in the Festival.
