Students, faculty and staff of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" climbed the historic Shipka Peak

Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" organized a march to the historic Shipka peak on the day of the national holiday of Bulgaria – 3 March in honour of its 25th anniversary. It involved students, faculty and staff of the university.


    More than 80, 000 Bulgarians climbed the peak and took part in the celebrations of the 138th anniversary of the Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule.       The patriotic program began on the road to Shipka. The Director of the Russian Centre of the University, Prof. Galina Shamonina, PhD and the Director of the University Library, Maria Minkova acquainted the group with interesting and little known facts about the battle of Shipka and the construction of the monument.


    To overcome the 890 steps fills with meaning and reverence every step to the peak, where the monument in memory of the thousands of volunteers and Russian soldiers who died for the freedom of Bulgaria was built.  


    Students of Varna Free University laid a wreath as a token of gratefulness.

    The patriotic march of the university group continued with a visit to one of the centre of the Bulgarian Revival - Tryavna and the Dryanovo Monastery.     The students, faculty and staff expressed their gratefulness for the unforgettable experience to the Vice-President of Varna Free University, Assoc. Prof. Krasimir Nedyalkov, PhD with whose support the march was organized for the fifth consecutive year.
