The Faculty of Architecture at Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna has started work on an international project called "Russia in the Heart of Bulgaria".
On 5 March 2012, VFU’s Boardroom hosted a procedure on the selection of student mobility applicants to work placements under the Erasmus Programme.
On Bulgaria’s National Day, 3 March, Faculty of Architecture students and academics, as well as representatives of Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna’s Russian Centre, laid a wreath at Mount Shipka as an expression of gratitude towards every hero who sacrificed his life for the liberation of our country.
The Foreign Language Department held a methodical seminar in association with Pearson Publishing Bulgaria, entitled "Practical approaches in foreign language instruction with the help of a PC". The seminar was attended by professors from the Department.
"International Sports Politics" is Varna Free University’s latest speciality, being unique not just for the University, but also nationwide. Its main advantage is its interdisciplinarity, the knowledge instilled belonging to different fields, such as political sciences, law, economics, and PE and sports.
Varna Free University took part in an education application fair, which officially started on 24 and 25 February 2012 at the Sofia University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. VFU’s participation featured a presentation of the rules for admission into 19 of its BA programmes, including the university’s brand new speciality of Graphic Design.
A competition for winning a one-year scholarship for next academic year has been announced by Varna Free University. Participation in the competition will entitle 20 future students to free instruction in their preferred speciality, the higher education school announced.
Stefan Stoychev, Bulgaria’s current Man of the Year has chosen Varna Free University for his future studies, after being proposed by the Board of the University to pursue higher education at Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna with a full scholarship.
On 28 January 2012, a project entitled "Elderly People’s Centre in Mladost District of Varna", directed by Prof. Massoud Esmailu, PhD, Arch. and developed by students from the Speciality of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture at Varna Free University, who took part in the 2011 Workshop in Sustainable Architecture, was presented in the Town of Bolzano, Italy.
The room was officially opened by the Rector, Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, Sc.D. During the opening, Prof. Yonko Kunchev, Sc.D., Head of the Forensic Report MA programme and Aleksandra Angelova, an assistant lecturer in forensic science and reporting, made several demonstrations using electronic microscopes, fingerprints and photo portrait forensic reporting.
The European Commission has awarded its HR Excellence in Research Logo to Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna in certification of the university’s significant achievements in the field of scientific research, the HR Logo being the third consecutive European award received by VFU in the last few years.
Poetess Radost Georgieva presented her third poetry book in Varna’s Grafit Gallery on her birthday. The presentation of the book entitled "Keep my heart!" brought together many of Radost’s friends and relatives, as well as a number of poets and poetry lovers from Varna.
On 12 January 2012, Varna Free University will host a work meeting with tourism representatives under the Encouraging Tourism: Relating Experience /RE:ACT/ Project, as a partner in the same.
The Anatolian Information Agency has made and distributed to over 2500 Turkish media a 9-minute video introducing Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna.
To keep tradition going, on 19 December 2011, the Varna Free University Russian Centre received its Russian learning guests, this time in the shape of a group of fifth-graders from Konstantin Preslavski Varna High School of Humanities.

An amateur student creative event entitled "Amateur Professionalism Varna 2011" was held in the Palace of Culture and Sports on 1 December 2011. The event is annually organized by the Municipal Directorate for Youth Activities and Sports and student councils from all Varna universities, and held in the eve of the Students’ Day.
A court jury of three future jurists cancelled a National Construction Control Regional Directorate order for the demolition of a superstructure on a building possessing the status of a cultural monument. The sitting constituted a simulative court session held by Varna Free University students.
Varna Free University beat Ludata Banda in one of the major derbies of the Cherno More Amateur League. The crowd enjoyed one of the tightest and most close-run matches of the season so far, which VFU won 69-60. VFU’s young team played a very strong game proving Ludata Banda are not undefeatable, thus causing them to suffer their first loss of the season.

Year 3 International Relations student Yordanka Stoyanova has taken part in the 5th International Pushkin Forum in Moscow. The event brought together representatives of 22 European and Asian countries.
For the first time, a VFU student (Ozlem Sadkova, a Year 3 International Relations student) has been nominated, by the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL) for participation in the final stage of the World Festival of Russian.
Starting at 18:00 h on 14 November (Monday), Varna Radio’s art hall will host the premiere of the book "Journalism in Varna in the 1990-2010 period", which will mark the completion of a student project implemented over the last four years under direction from Assoc. Prof. Georgi Kalaglaski, PhD.
A number of Fashion Design students had their successful graduation in the month of October. The projects were introduced by means of a portfolio and slideshow presentation, followed by a fashion show demonstrating the diversity of the conceptual, creative and designing ideas possessed by the young students.

The project is funded under Lifelong Learning Programme, Grundtvig Funding Programme, Multilateral Projects, and is aimed at improving the level of ecotourism instruction by means of developing a new electronic educational platform.
A workshop was held at Varna Free University by Spanish architect Javier Pena on 2 October. The architect, who has been on a visit to Bulgaria with regard to his participation in the Sofia Architectural Week, is among the prominent figures in modern architecture, not only in his own country, but worldwide.

Prof. George Vredeveld, PhD has become the tenth Doctor Honoris Causa at Varna Free University in acknowledgement of his special contribution to the founding of the higher education institution and the establishment of democratic principles in Bulgarian education.

From this academic year, the Varna Free University Faculty of International Economics and Administration has been offering a new speciality called "Business Intelligence Systems". It provides instruction for 50 full-time and part-time BA students, courses starting 1 November.
The outstanding artists of the Art Dance Ballet Group performed a fantastic show choreographed and directed by the endowed Nina Kozina, who once again showed her masterclass in modern choreography.
"Territorial and Landscape Planning" is the title of a new speciality to be opened at Varna Free University’s Faculty of Architecture. 25 students will be admitted to the speciality, whereas the course will provide a B.A. and M.A. option.
From 1-5 August 2011, Varna Free University hosted an International Summer Qualification Session entitled "Modern Pedagogical Techniques in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language". The summer school session took place for a third year in a row within the framework of an international project co-organised by VFU and the Russian World Fund.
An international workshop in sustainable architecture will be held by Varna Free University for a fourth year in a row. The event will close 31 July, Sunday. Architect Masood Esmaillu, Prof., PhD, from Venice University of Architecture, will be the main lecturer at the forum, VFU representatives announced.
During the Forum, the Bulgarian delegation met prominent scholars in the field of psychology, exchanging ideas on the main trends in psychological research. In the most significant of the meetings, the Bulgarian scholars met world-renowned social psychologist Philip Zimbardo, PhD from the USA.
The project has drawn great attention at the start of yet another VFU event taking place at the Central Office of Bulgarian Architects at 18:00 h on 18 July (Monday).
